See where the rest of us farmers are! How our farms are doing, our crops, our livestock. How the weather is, and how it's affecting us!

Hello all!
To all farmers out there, I know this rain must be frustrating you all in the Edmonton area! I know we are, anybody these days is lucky to even get a little of their harvest in. We currently have barley and corn crops. Last year we had barley and canola. Our barley isn't looking too healthy cut down when it keeps raining. Every day it rains, the quality of our crops goes down unfortunately. But we're not the only ones; it's basically everybody in the Edmonton area. The forecast is all over the place, predicts that it will be sunny, and what do we get? Rain and gray clouds! Winter's coming! Frost is already setting in some mornings, days are getting shorter, but some of us are slowly getting our harvest in. I actually saw a combine and a grain truck going at it a day after it rained. They must be one of the lucky farmers to have a grain dryer. Basically, what happens when you harvest your crops when it's too wet is that the harvest will go bad. Most of us put it in a grain bin, and the smell of barley. Actually did you know that beer is made from a certain type of barley? That's why you have to wait until it's dry, so the quality of your crop is better, and won't mold as fast. Our harvest is coming in later than usual, so the quality won't be as good as we would like it to be, but we'll take what we can.
